Land Use Planning for Water Quality Training Workshop
Creating land use plans that include water quality consideration

Participants in the Land Use Planning for Water Quality Training Workshop learn that communities have two ways that together allow them to develop land while preserving water resources. They can integrate best practices into their development rules - the focus of our Site Planning Roundtable Management Workshop. They can integrate water quality considerations into their planning process - the focus of this workshop. Through interactive small groups and hands-on exercises, they practice water quality planning techniques and learn how other communities are addressing these issues. They learn how to integrate the results into their community’s land use plans.

Objectives and goals:
Participant gain the following:
• review of why water quality is important to communities
• knowledge of the relationship between watershed and comprehensive planning
• practice using water quality planning techniques
• advice on how to integrate results in existing planning processes and documents


Prerequisites:
Participants are working for or with local governments to address land use or water quality issues. They have taken the Leadership Training Workshop. This is not mandatory, particularly if local elected officials and key opinion leaders support changing their community’s approach to land use planning.

Materials needed:
Participants receive reference materials and the Center for Watershed Protection's Rapid Watershed Handbook.

Certification:
Participants receive a certificate of completion.
